Grease-film review

Grease (commonly known as grease lightning) is a well known musical from the later 70's. Grease is a highly popular film that is suitable for all ages and for families to watch together, the film certificate is rated at PG but has a warning of mild sex references. This well known film fits into the genre of a comedy musical, the film was produced by paramount pictures, filmed in america and directed by Randal Kleiser. The film is set in the 50's that follows 2 groups of teenagers in the final year of high school, one group is of 4 girls known as the pink ladies and the other group contains 5 guys known as the T birds, both groups are the most popular in Rydell high. the entire film lasts to 106 minutes long.

an australian Sandy (Olivia Newton-John) meets the leader of t birds Danny Zuko (John Travolta) on a beach in California, her parents decide to stay in America both her and Danny end up in the same year at high school. sandy is devastated to find that Danny is a different person when he around his other friends as oppose to when he is alone with sandy. throughout the film we see sandy is a very different character to her new friends in the pink ladies and toward the end of the film we see her seek help from her new found friends to help turn her into a new more attractive and sexualized Version of herself.

The T Birds

The pink ladies and Sandy.

The film is packed full of great moments and fun songs. one of the most popular songs and one of my personal favourite scenes is when the t birds are working on an old rusted car to make it look good as new and be ready to race another group of popular teenagers known as the scorpions from their rival school. The scene shows all the thunder birds dancing around the car and singing about how good the car will be once they have finished working on it. The song is "grease lightning" its a catchy song, easy to remember and also has a well known dance routine that is easy to remember and follow.

  Grease Lightning song

A second favourite scene of mine, again is to another song, this song called "Beauty School Drop Out" isn't technically sung by a character of the film however is sung about and to one of the pink ladies (Frenchy) the song is sung by Frankie Avalon who is meant to play the part of frenchy's guardian angel. It is set in a "heaven like" setting, The reason i like this song is because although its not a vital part in the films story line it helps to make frenchy's character a more important role. I really enjoy the way the scene is put together and I also love the way that both frankie and the back up singers sing it.

My 3rd favourite scene is towards the end of the film when sandy reveals her new makeover to show Danny how she has changed and fits in with the popular groups.
She reveals herself to Danny along with music to the song "the one that i want" the song is sung during and end of year fun fair surrounded by all the friends she has made in her high school year.

I enjoyed the whole film from start to finish, there is only very few parts of the film that I personally thought were unnecessary for example although I do agree the first scene on the film contained important information as to how both sandy and Danny met I feel like the music chosen for that scene doesn't particularly fit in with the scene. I would personally have had that scene as a shorter scene that contained a conversation between Danny and Sandy that explained to viewers how they met. I feel that that the music the chose doesn't fit well with the montage of their time at the beach, the music then changes into a much more upbeat song "Grease Is The Word" which is used for the opening title, the 2 songs don't go well together. This would be the only change I would make to the film.
